Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) chairman Rabi Lamichhane arrived in New Delhi on Monday for a five-day official visit to India, and is scheduled to meet senior leaders of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at party headquarters Tuesday — a visit that signals growing interest between Nepal’s newer political forces and their Indian counterparts.
The delegation’s visit comes at the formal invitation of the BJP, lending the trip a degree of political weight beyond routine diplomatic calls. Discussions are expected to span a range of topics, including the state of democratic politics in both countries, each party’s governing experience, avenues for political cooperation, and ways to strengthen the broader bilateral relationship.
“Both sides are expected to discuss the shared responsibilities of democratic parties — and what a closer working relationship between the two could look like.”
The meeting reflects a wider pattern of Nepali political parties — particularly newer ones seeking to distinguish themselves from the traditional left-right divide — building direct links with major Indian parties. For the RSP, which has positioned itself as a reform-minded, independent force in Nepali politics, the engagement with one of the region’s most powerful political machines carries both symbolic and practical significance.
Lamichhane and his delegation are expected to remain in India through the rest of the week, with further engagements likely on the schedule.
